Cat Canyon

Cat Canyon

"The Santa Maria Valley saw oil exploration begin in 1888, leading to large-scale discoveries. Several significant discoveries followed, including the Orcutt and Cat Canyon fields in 1904 and 1908.  By 1910, Cat Canyon's discovery well flowed between 6,000 and 10,000 barrels daily. It became known as Blochman No. 1."

Bell-Lease-1909The oil business has been of great benefit to the communities and people of Santa Barbara County for more than a century.

The Cat Canyon oil field is now over a century old and one of the earliest oil fields discovered in Santa Barbara County. In recent years, ERG has revitalized this historic oilfield. The strong oil economy and untapped reserves have allowed us to bring these existing operations back online. Research and testing suggests there are still plenty of reserves in the basin.

Today, many ranchers, farmers and vintners have oil connections, past and present.

We believe in first class operations.

We are investing heavily in our properties in Cat Canyon. Existing operations have been upgraded thru inspection, testing and certification. Components and entire facilities have been replaced, additional berms have been installed around well pads and the latest technology advancements are constantly being added.

We take our stewardship responsibility seriously.

We appreciate that this is an intensive industrial use in a very beautiful place, and we take pride in how we work with property owners and neighbors, wildlife and environmental concerns. We are always open to hearing from you (go to the "Contact" tab for ways to reach us).

We invest millions into the local economy.

With 40 local, full-time employees, ERG hires local, creating good paying jobs that provide for families. Additionally, we work with over 200 companies. These contractors, vendors, consultants and suppliers employ hundreds of people.
